Plan to upgrade the communications infrastructure has potential to improve the lives of millions, Panel says
29 November 2011
The Panel welcomes the Government's undertakings in the National Infrastructure Plan 2011 to invest in, and start procurement of new mobile infrastructure by spring 2012 and explore enhancing mobile coverage along transport corridors.
Chair Bob Warner said: "Inadequate mobile coverage is a major concern for the Panel, and we are campaigning for intervention to improve poor or non-existent coverage. It creates considerable problems for small businesses, people living in not-spots and people passing through them, as well as passengers on the rail and London tube networks. The Chancellor's plan to upgrade the UK's communications infrastructure has the potential to improve the lives of millions of people significantly."
