Panel supports new guides into avoiding 'bill shock'

28 March 2013

The Panel has supported a new series of consumer guides produced by Ofcom that explain how to avoid the key causes of ‘bill shock’.  Following its review into the causes of bill shock, Ofcom has also set out an action plan to tackle the problem. The regulator said it will work with the mobile industry on a series of measures to address the main issues identified by the review and, if these do not sufficiently reduce damage caused to consumers, Ofcom warned it would consider mandatory options to tackle the problem.

The guides offer advice and tips covering four areas:

  • Preventing bill shock when using your mobile phone in the UK
  • Preventing bill shock when using your phone abroad
  • How to protect your phone from thieves and what to do if the phone is lost/ stolen
  • What to do if you have an unexpectedly high phone bill

The guides can be found on the Ofcom website:
